The Extreme Tournament used to be an annual 8-participant single-elimination tournament promoted by the BATTLE-Extreme organization.
The tournament is comprised of established names and newcomers all vying for the Extreme Championship. Depending on the situation, the participant will win the title in the tournament or will receive a title match at a future date.
Out of the six tournament winners, Tsugumi Muto, Maria Wakatsuki, and Misa Suzumi successfully became champions. Yui Misaki did win her title match but decline to be the champion. Waka Ninomiya lost her title opportunity and Mio Misaki dropped out of wrestling after winning the tournament.
Origins[]
The birth of the Extreme Tournament originally came after the one-time event called "Heel Villainous Tournament" won by Seiko Iida in December 2013. Although Muto was the first tournament champion under the Extreme name, Iida is technically the inaugural champion in the belt's history. Though Iida's reign ended swiftly after announcing her retirement thus vacated the belt leading to the creation of the annual event in 2014.
