Ako Momona (桃菜あこ) (formerly Kou Asumi & Mari Koizumi) is a Japanese AV actress and professional wrestler. She is currently affiliated with the BATTLE organization and is the ace of Fighting Girls International. Momona is the current Masters Champion in her first reign.
Character Bio[]
Billed from: Tokyo, Japan
Alignment: Babyface
Starting as a timid rookie to one of the greatest performers in BATTLE history, Momona has done it all from championship tournament to being a belt collector. Although she is affiliated with BWP's rival group, Momona is too well-liked to be a heel but has shown aggressive tactics if needed. In addition to her long list of accomplishments, Momona is also a former Triple Crown Champion holding the BWP Championship, Fighting Girls Championship, and BATTLE Heavyweight Championship at the same time. She joins an exclusive club of previous triple crown winners such as Hitomi Aragaki, Chiharu Nakai, and Megumi Haruka.
BATTLE (2015-)[]
Mari Koizumi: B-1 Champion[]
Debuting as "Mari Koizumi", she won the B-1 Tournament 2015 and captured the vacant B-1 Championship. During her title run, Koizumi would have one title defense over Sakura Mochizuki. However, she lost her belt to Madoka Hitomi, who won the B-1 Tournament in 2016.
Re-debut[]
Following her "graduation", Koizumi returned as "Kou Asumi" in the hopes of redeeming herself after losing the B-1 Championship. Asumi would experience a rough start losing to Kana Tsuruta and future rival YUE in two title matches. The 2017 edition of the B-1 Tournament had multiple changes due to wrestlers getting injured. Asumi was allowed to earn a spot in the finals but lost to Akari Hoshimiya. Despite the setback, Asumi remains determined and has begun to gain momentum heading into 2019.
Kou Asumi: A Year of Greatness[]
2019 is considered to be the best year of Asumi's wrestling career following her previous run that ended abruptly. Asumi got her long-awaited win against Ririka Hoshikawa, the former Madoka Hitomi in July. In August, she defeated SAYA, an American model/wrestler at BWP 05. Also within the same month, she defeated Hana Kanou to capture the vacant Fighting Girls Championship. Lastly, in December, Asumi defeated long-time rival YUE in the main event of BWP 06 to become the fourth Triple Crown Champion.
Ako Momona: History Maker[]
In March 2020, under the new name "Ako Momona", she defeated Ageha at the BATTLE Fan Meeting. She would also have memorable feuds with the likes of Ham @ Tachibana and Arisa Kawasaki. On December 12, 2020, Momona made history by becoming the first-ever Quadruple Crown Champion holding four belts at the same time. She defeated Kawasaki in the main event of BWP 08 in a double title match for the B-1 & BWP championships. In addition to her milestone achievement, Momona became a two-time B-1 Champion. Along with Hoshikawa, both wrestlers tie for the most title wins in the belt's lineage. Heading into 2021, Momona had a match against Saya Minami which would end up being her only match for that year.
"Retirement" & Return[]
On June 29, 2021, it was announced that Momona vacated all of her championships. It was also confirmed that she is going on an indefinite hiatus and several new champions will be crowned at Fighting Girls International 01. Original plans for the revived show were for Momona to defend all of her belts against four different opponents. Then in June 2022, after a year of uncertainty, Momona made her triumphant return at BWP NEXT 08 teaming with Akari Niimura to defeat Nana Maeno and Aina Nagase in the main event. It was later revealed that Momona took a long hiatus due to health reasons and has admitted she is not 100% but continues to improve her well-being.
Champion's Tournament Qualifier[]
In June 2022, Momona took on Nagase where not only the vacant Masters Championship is on the line but the winner gains entry into the BATTLE Champions Tournament. In the end, Momona not only qualified for the tournament but also captured the blue belt winning her fifth singles championship in a hall-of-fame-worthy career.
A Never Ending BATTLE[]
In August 2022, Momona and YUE headlined Fighting Girls International 02 rekindling their legendary bout from BWP 06 only this time Momona lost on her home turf. If that wasn't enough, the two aces competed in the BATTLE Champions Tournament as part of the B-Block quarterfinal where Momona lost to YUE once again. In December 2022, Momona takes on another BWP mainstay Arisu Otsu for the first time at BWP 10: Heroines Assemble.
FGI Tag Team Special[]
As the ace of FGI, Momona is tasked with helping recruits in the art of pro wrestling as partners and opponents. That was the case in a tag match when Momona teamed with June Lovejoy against Mafuyu Yukina and Akari Nonoka.
